EN A new house near Warsaw in Poland. A home for a young family, the design of this house responded to our client’s aim of establishing a series of ambitious gardens on the site and to create a welcoming venue for receiving guests.

Set within an open landscape of intensive fruit production, the building’s elevations echo the staccato visual rhythms of the adjacent orchards, as well as the nearby avenues of mature trees. The pale brick columns and walls act as a backdrop to the gardens that surround the house.

The chief volume of the house sits, pavilion-like, in the main part of the garden and is topped with a simple, tent-like roof. Inside this double-height volume a large aedicular timber structure subdivides the interior into smaller, more room-like spaces: kitchen, dining room and the main lounge. This outsized piece of furniture also contains the entrance lobby, cloakroom, storage cupboards, a larder and, at first floor level, a study and library.

Generous alcoves along the perimeter of the main space provide a further sense of intimacy within this grand interior and frame views out to the landscape. Deep overhangs protect the living spaces from the summer sun while in the autumn and winter the sun penetrates deep into building.

PL Nowy dom jednorodzinny pod Warszawą. Głównymi założeniami projektu dla młodej rodziny było współgranie budynku z obszernymi ogrodami i stworzenie komfortowej przestrzeni do przyjmowania licznych gości.

Budynek usytuowany jest w krajobrazie zdominowanym przez intensywną produkcję owoców i nawiązuje kompozycją elewacji do powtarzających się rytmów otaczających sadów, a także pobliskich alei dojrzałych drzew. Kolumny i ściany z jasnej cegły stanowią stonowane tło dla naturalistycznych ogrodów otaczających dom.

Główna bryła domu, przypominająca pawilon, umiejscowiona jest w głównej części ogrodu i zwieńczona jest prostym, namiotowym dachem. Wewnątrz kubatury o podwójnej wysokości mieści się duża drewniana edykularna antresola, która dzieli wnętrze na mniejsze przestrzenie: kuchnię, jadalnię i salon. Ten wielkogabarytowy mebel zawiera również hol wejściowy, garderobę, spiżarnię oraz, na poziomie pierwszego piętra, gabinet i bibliotekę.

Wnęki na siedziska i stół, zapewniają poczucie intymności w tym obszernym wnętrzu i tworzą obramowanie widoku na zewnątrz. Głębokie okapy chronią pomieszczenia mieszkalne przed gorącym letnim słońcem, natomiast jesienią i zimą słońce wnika głęboko w budynek.
